Everton may reportedly still look towards Chelsea’s Ross Barkley as a transfer target this month.
According to The Telegraph, Everton are on the brink of appointing ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as their new manager to succeed Rafael Benitez.
It is understood 28-year-old Barkley is one of the players Lampard may target in the next couple of days if he becomes manager at the Merseyside club. In addition, Tottenham’s Dele Alli could be on his radar.
However, the report explains they only have room in their squad to register one more player on loan this season after signing Anwar El Ghazi this month on a temporary basis from Aston Villa.
Everton will have until Monday’s deadline day to get any more players through the door. For Chelsea, everything seems fairly quiet on the transfer front in this window.

Barkley should want Chelsea exit
Unfortunately, it’s never really worked out for Barkley at Stamford Bridge since arriving in 2018.
The attacking midfielder left Everton a few years ago in an attempt to take his game to the next level, as he was a proper young talent when on their books. Ironically, he’s now being linked with a potential return to Goodison Park to kickstart his career.
He can’t be happy with the fact he’s only played 12 games across all competitions this season, so really he should be wanting to go elsewhere to get more minutes.
The £96,000-a-week playmaker has 33 England caps under his belt. It looks like a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad is a mile off right now, though.
Thomas Tuchel has enough depth in his Blues group to let Barkley go if a late offer does arrive for him.
