Report: Club promise to play Chelsea player in his favourite position if they sign him today

Borussia Dortmund have apparently assured Callum Hudson-Odoi regular minutes at left wing this season, as long as he leaves Chelsea.

This is according to The Athletic, who claim Hudson-Odoi has been ‘promised game time in his preferred left-wing role’ by Dortmund.

The 20-year-old is seemingly edging ever close to a move away from Stamford Bridge before the window snaps shut.

He is yet to feature in any of the opening three Premier League fixtures of 2020/21.

Having begun life brightly under Thomas Tuchel, the Cobham graduate quickly lost his foothold in the squad rankings.

From March onwards, Hudson-Odoi has started just three competitive matches.

Therefore, it’s no surprise the pacey attacker wants a change of scenery from his boyhood club.

Dortmund have emerged as potential suitors, but face competition from a handful of English sides.

They would like to take him on loan for the campaign, having pledged to use him as an attacking wide player instead as a wing-back.

Thomas Tuchel tried to transform Hudson-Odoi into a more defensive unit as part of his renewed 3-4-2-1 formation.

Initially, it seemed like the change in system and position suited the England U-21 international.

His speed allowed him to get up and down the field to defend or attack in equal measure.

But it soon became clear that Cesar Azpilicueta or Reece James were to be the favoured pick.

It was also evident that Hudson-Odoi was unlikely to feature prominently as one of the two forwards behind the main striker.

This has left him in limbo, unsure of his standing within the team.

Every Chelsea fan would love to see their Cobham prodigy return to the form he enjoyed under Maurizio Sarri, as a tricky, talented, tenacious winger.
