Roma are reportedly prepared to give their striker Tammy Abraham a new contract just a year after Chelsea sold him to them.

According to 90min, Roma are ready to offer the 24-year-old a fresh deal to reward his excellent first season in Italy. Manager Jose Mourinho wants the new contract to see a pay rise, too.

It is understood the England international is in no rush to leave the Serie A club, despite interest from Premier League sides Arsenal, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

The report highlights Chelsea still have a buy-back clause that allows them to re-sign Abraham in 2023, albeit it would cost a sizable £68million.

Abraham lined up for another Roma contract

The fact Abraham could be offered a new glittering deal is a testament to how well he’s done during his first year overseas.

He finished the season with 27 goals in 53 games across all competitions, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League in the process.

The centre-forward’s in the latest England squad ahead of the Nations League, but has the unenviable task of trying to get into the side ahead of captain Harry Kane.

Abraham’s potential and ability was regularly spoken about during his days coming through the Chelsea academy. He dazzled on a number of loan spells before breaking into the Blues first team, but he appears to have elevated his game to another height this season.

Should Chelsea re-sign?

The buy-back clause Chelsea have in Abraham’s deal means they need to keep a close eye on his development.

If he can get close to 30 goals again next season for Roma, many Blues supporters may be begging to have him back at Stamford Bridge.

TalkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair suggested this week Thomas Tuchel’s side could look at bringing him back.
