Chelsea have reportedly wanted to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde for two years and will do everything they can to complete their transfer mission.
According to Athletic sources, the Blues have been big fans of Kounde, long before the links started to arise this summer.
2019 was the time the Frenchman left Bordeaux as a teenager to join Sevilla.
In such a short period, he is now one of the game’s most talented defenders and under inspection by Europe’s elite.
He is currently coming up very hot on Chelsea’s radar, who are in discussion with the Spanish side over a possible transfer for their young sensation.
There is still some way to go before this deal can be completed. Mainly because the Blues are reluctant to pay off Kounde’s release clause, which stands at £68m (Athletic).
They are attempting to offer some cash and a play in return for the centre-back.
Kurt not Keen
One suggested swap was Kurt Zouma, who is apparently regarded quite highly by Sevilla.
Yet, the 26-year-old would rather remain in London, amid new interest from West Ham United.
This hasn’t halted Chelsea’s commitment to signing Kounde, as one Athletic insider highlighted.
“Chelsea want Kounde no matter what. He has been earmarked as a player they have been wanting to buy for the past two years.
“Zouma is the player that is being looked at to go the other way, but Chelsea are going to try and find a way to get this done regardless.”
If Zouma isn’t an option, there are plenty of exchangeable pieces situated at Stamford Bridge currently.
Malang Sarr might be of intrigue to Sevilla, considering he is a defender by nature and could be a like for like trade.
Others on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s squad are Davide Zappacosta, Kenedy, and Emerson Palmieri. But the La Liga club have seemingly already rejected Chelsea’s offering of Emerson.
