Report: Club think Chelsea will offer ‘amazing’ player in exchange for £43m defender
Reports have claimed that Inter Milan believe Chelsea could be willing to offer Mateo Kovacic in a swap deal for Denzel Dumfries.
According to Inter Live, the Serie A side are confident the midfielder would be willing to make the switch back to the club he played for early in his career.
Kovacic has established himself as a very important member of the Chelsea squad in the last couple of seasons. So much so, that now his impact is severely noticed amongst viewers.
This was on display this weekend, with him seemingly not fit enough to feature from the start against league leading Arsenal.
After an injury in midweek, he was not risked from the start by Graham Potter, leaving many believing they would have been in a stronger position if he had been.
Inter hoping for Kovacic swap
His brilliance has seen him described as ‘amazing’ by fellow midfielder Jorginho, as the pair have featured together a number of times.
It will therefore come as a shock to many what Inter Live are reporting, and Chelsea would be willing to part with Kovacic in order to bring in Dumfries, who they claim is worth around £43m.
Despite Chelsea currently in need of reinforcements in the right wing-back area, it is unlikely it will come at the expense of one of their most important midfielders.
Reports recently have claimed negotiations between Kovacic and Chelsea may continue over a new contract as soon as the World Cup is over.
Added to the uncertainty of the futures of Jorginho and N’golo Kante, it is very difficult to see the Croatian international being allowed to leave as well.
Potter may choose to hand Kovacic a start on Wednesday night, as the Blues desperately search for a return to winning ways. Unfortunately, it is Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium that could get in their way.
