West Ham reportedly want to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma in time to have him available for their next game.

The Hammers host Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League and want the Blues player in their squad. They go into the fixture top of the league with a 100 win per cent win record from their opening two matches.

According to The Sun, David Moyes’ West Ham are closing in on a £25million transfer for powerhouse centre-back Zouma.

The report explains that personal terms are now at the “final stages”. Chelsea have reportedly made the 26-year-old available due to the amount of competition they’ve got in their defence.

Zouma, who moved to Stamford Bridge for £12million in January 2014, could now be sold for over the double that price before the summer transfer window shuts.

The centre-half has made 151 first-team appearances for Chelsea and, on his day, has proven to be a colossus defender that’s great in both penalty boxes.

However, the level of centre-backs right now in Thomas Tuchel’s squad looks elite.

On paper, there should be an opportunity for Zouma to get regular minutes, if he ends up making the short trip across London to West Ham. But, at Chelsea he’s competing with the likes of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Trevoh Chalobah for a starting position.

He will leave a massive gap in the squad if he departs because of his huge personality. This could be a move, though, that makes sense for all parties involved.
