Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a potential target.

According to the Evening Standard, Diego Simeone’s Atletico side have made an enquiry about signing the 33-year-old Blues striker.

It is understood that Aubameyang would be unable to represent a third European club this season due to appearances for Barcelona and Chelsea already. However, there’s the possibility of a move in the summer transfer window.

The report explains the centre-forward’s name has been mentioned during conversations between Chelsea and Atletico, who have been in discussions about Joao Felix. Incidentally, it was confirmed earlier today that Felix has completed a move to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico until the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid interested in Aubameyang

La Liga giants Atletico are named as potential suitors for Aubameyang, with contact already made. The Evening Standard adds that there may be more interest from Spanish clubs, too.

The report says Aubameyang is still keen to fight for his place in the Chelsea side following his £12million arrival from Barcelona in the summer.

However, there may be a way out of west London for him at the end of the season.

He’s under contract with the Blues still until 2024, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what happens with him if he can’t force his way into Graham Potter’s best line-up.

Paul Merson recently said he thinks Aubameyang will move on from Chelsea in the near future. Can he turn things around in the second half of the season, though?

There’s been opportunities for to impress this campaign, albeit he’s lost his starting position post-World Cup.

His latest problem could be the arrival of Felix, who will surely be in line to play one of the attacking roles.
