Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri is reportedly set to move to Inter Milan to make room for a new left-back, with Ben Chilwell reportedly on top of Frank Lampard’s shortlist.
As previously reported by the Telegraph journalist Matt Law (London is Blue podcast), a new left-back is next on Chelsea’s priority list after Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
And it seems like Emerson is the one who will make way for a potential new fullback.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Lampard is not convinced by him and the former Roma defender is set to return to Serie A to join former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
The report added that the move will be completed after Inter Milan finish their Europa League campaign which means it could wait until the final on August 22 should they beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the semifinal tonight.
Leicester City defender Chilwell is Lampard’s No 1 target, the report added, but considering the England international is under contract until 2024, the Foxes are under no pressure to sell this summer.
Although, the report mentioned that the situation could change if the 23-year-old requests to leave.
Leicester missed out on a top-four finish this season which means Chelsea offer Chilwell the Champions League football his current club don’t.
Sky Sports’s report also mentioned that Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico, who would be available for half the reported £80million Leicester demand for Chilwell, as an alternative option.
