Enzo Fernandez has reportedly told his Benfica teammates that he will be signing for Chelsea today.

According to the Sun, Fernandez has made it clear to his club colleagues that a deal to join the Premier League side will be done before the transfer deadline.

The midfielder’s prediction does not have long left to come true.

Chelsea only have a few hours left of the window to secure the 22-year-old’s services.

They have furiously been trying to organise a deal with Benfica, but have repeatedly been met with resistance.

Their main obstacle is the president of the Portugal side Rui Costa, who isn’t willing to bow down to the demands of Todd Boehly and his team.

Costa has been presented with an offer to cover Fernandez’s £106m release clause, but to paid in instalments rather than all at once.

He apparently wants all the money up front, and is seemingly not going to budge until this is delivered.

It really could come down to who blinks first.

How desperate are Chelsea to land the World Cup winner that they’ll relinquish all this cash at once?

Can Costa really turn down the chance to earn an incredible fee for a player they only bought for £10m?

All should be answered by the end of Tuesday evening.
