Report: 'Fantastic' Chelsea talent will leave Stamford Bridge today and join PL club on loan

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill will reportedly join Premier League rivals Brighton today on loan.

According to The Athletic, the 19-year-old talent will be leaving Stamford Bridge and signing with Brighton on Friday.

The report expects this season-long loan move to be confirmed today, as well the permanent transfer of Marc Cucurella from Brighton to Chelsea.

It’s previously been reported that Colwill’s move to the Amex Stadium could be a permanent one with a potential buy-back clause, but the teenager will only be exiting on another loan.

Colwill will join Brighton on loan

After impressing last year in the Championship during a loan with Huddersfield, Colwill will now get the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

The English defender is yet another rising talent from Chelsea’s academy at Cobham, who’s been involved during pre-season with Thomas Tuchel’s first-team group.

It looks like it will be a great opportunity for the left-footed centre-back to continue his development with a talented Brighton side.

Described as “fantastic” by Huddersfield’s Tom Lees, Colwill is making the perfect steps to hopefully end up a future player in Chelsea’s senior ranks.

Many forget it was only his first year at first-team level last season, so to kickstart the second one in the Premier League highlights his real talent.

Potter to work his magic

Colwill is set to walk into a Brighton dressing room that may be an ideal environment for him this campaign.

Brighton’s manager Graham Potter has got the Seagulls playing an attractive brand of football with a possession-based game, so it should suit the young Chelsea defender when it comes to his ability playing out from the back.

Also, it’s no coincidence that their preference to play a back three means the centre-half is likely to get minutes in a similar system to the one Tuchel implements at Stamford Bridge.
