Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta may reportedly be heading for a loan move away from Stamford Bridge, according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.
Sky Italy journalist Di Marzio has claimed on his official website that Serie A club Fiorentina are looking at a potential deal for the 28-year-old.
It is understood that Italian’s Fiorentina have made contact with the right-back’s agent and a move could be wrapped up on a loan basis.
Zappacosta signed for Chelsea back in 2017 for £23million (Sky Sports) from Torino, but he struggled to really cement a permanent position in the XI at Stamford Bridge and his days now look numbered in West London.
The attack-minded full-back spent the entire 2019/20 campaign out on loan with Roma and unfortunately made just nine appearances for them, as a long-term injury saw him largely watch on from the sidelines.
He has made 52 first-team appearances for the Blues, but only half of them were in the Premier League and he’s been unable to really show his best in English football.
The Italian speed machine looks set for another loan spell in his homeland and his current deal with Chelsea still has two years remaining.
Chelsea have moved on in the right-back position to promising academy graduate Reece James, who has just had a decent debut season with the senior team after gaining experience the year before at Wigan Athletic.
The 20-year-old Englishman looked like being the long-term solution in Frank Lampard’s side as the right-sided defender, plus there is still versatile club captain Cesar Azpilicueta that can currently fill the role in the squad.
