Report: Guardiola now wants to sign ‘extraordinary’ £50m midfielder, after links with Chelsea

Manchester City are reportedly interested in Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who’s previously been linked with Chelsea.

According to The Telegraph, Man City’s Pep Guardiola may want to sign the 22-year-old as a replacement for Fernandinho.

The report states City admire the highly-rated defensive midfielder, but their immediate focus in the summer will be landing Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.

Interestingly, Tchouameni’s a player that’s received links to Chelsea recently. The Blues were linked with the Monaco man a few months ago, with a £50million price tag on his head.

He looks tailor-made for the Premier League with his stamina, physicality and quality on the ball.

Manchester United and France star Paul Pogba previously described him as “extraordinary” in the past, too.

Chelsea midfield extremely difficult to penetrate

It’s going to be a very tall order for any new signing or returning loanee to break into the Chelsea midfield.

As it stands, the senior trio of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic rotate well for the two central midfield roles.

However, Tchouameni has the potential to be a £50million bargain if he fulfils his potential.

Hopefully, the Blues can be active in the transfer market this summer if a change of ownership is successful in the coming weeks.

Yesterday was the deadline for all takeover bids to be submitted, so it’s intriguing to see who emerges as the frontrunners to buy Chelsea.
