Report: Hakim Ziyech hopes to persuade Chelsea to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana
Hakim Ziyech reportedly wants to talk Chelsea into a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The Blues wrapped up a deal in February to sign Ziyech from Ajax in the summer for £37million (Independent) and the talented attacking midfielder has remained with the Dutch giants for the rest of this season before his switch to Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Mail, Ziyech wants to persuade Frank Lampard’s side into a move for his Ajax teammate Onana and he’s close friends with the goalkeeper.
It is understood that Onana is open to a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea or London rivals Tottenham his preferred destination.
The report explains that any deal would cost between £40-50million and the Blues do want to sign a new shot-stopper ahead of next season, but it’s Spanish club Barcelona that are mentioned with the genuine interest in him at present.
Ziyech is set to be an extremely addition to the squad next season and there is no doubt that he’s not the only player in the Ajax team that could succeed in the Premier League.
Onana is not yet on the Chelsea radar, but he’s a talented player with plenty of experience in big games and could be an interesting target to consider.
He is already so experienced aged just 23 and is comfortable with the ball at his feet, plus has a lot of potential to improve.
The Cameron international has 15 clean sheets in 39 games across all competitions this season for Ajax and was part of the team that went to the Champions League semi-final during the previous campaign.
Chelsea do have problem in net this season with inconsistent goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and competition would be good for him, but the club can’t be forking out £40million-plus for someone not to use him regularly.
