Report: How much Chelsea are offering to Lyon to recall Emerson from his loan

Fabrizio Romano has reported how much Chelsea are offering Lyon to recall Emerson Palmieri this month.

With England international Ben Chilwell sidelined through injury for the rest of the season, it seems like Chelsea are looking for alternatives in the current January transfer window for his left wing-back position.

According to reliable journalist Romano on Twitter, Chelsea are trying to offer around €4million (£3.3million) in compensation to bring left-back Emerson back to Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old full-back is currently on a season-long loan with French club Lyon, but the Blues want to bring him back to solve a problem area.

It’s been reported by Goal that he’s open to the idea of returning to London early from his loan, too.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel needs extra competition in the wing-back area for Marcos Alonso, especially because of the amount of games the club has scheduled ahead.

Emerson’s made 71 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2018 and could slot into the squad seamlessly if a deal can be negotiated with Lyon.

Chelsea recalling Emerson makes perfect sense

Yes, some Chelsea fans would love to see a big-money signing arrive in January. However, Chilwell’s return next season means the club don’t need to spend huge at left wing-back.

It’s vital they bring somebody in quickly, though.

Chelsea bringing Emerson back seems like a no-brainer, even if it’s a little frustrating it may end up costing a £3million-plus fee to get him.

The Italy international showed in the summer he has serious quality by helping his country win the Euros.

In addition, the fact he knows Tuchel’s group is a big positive.
