Report: ‘Incredible’ goalkeeper rejects contract to stay at his club, after claims Chelsea want to sign him

Reports have claimed that Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has rejected the latest contract offer to stay with the Premier League club.

According to Relevo, Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in signing the Spaniard as they look to strengthen between the sticks.

Despite what some of the stats might be saying about current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga, reports haven’t disappeared that they are looking to buy a new goalkeeper.

The Spain international has the second best save percentage in the league this season, only behind Newcastle United’s Nick Pope who is enjoying a sensational campaign.

Nevertheless, the Maurizio Sarri signing has had his fair share of critics since reclaiming his place in the side.

With Edouard Mendy injured and drastically out of form, it is an essential purchase for Todd Boehly to make as they continue to spend lavishly.

Raya however may not need to be one of those expensive signings. It has previously been claimed that he may be available for around £15m.

Raya rejects latest contract offer

With his quality clear to see, he is sure to attract plenty of suitors in the Premier League and beyond.

Relevo have claimed Chelsea are rivalling some of the biggest sides in the country for the signing of Raya, with him again rejecting a new contract offered to him by the West London neighbours.

With all the big money signings being made by the club, the cut-price addition of Raya could be the most important the new ownership make.

His ability to play with his feet is crucial to how Brentford play, and is replicated in the style Graham Potter is wanting his side to operate.

Jurgen Klopp has previously described the goalkeeper as ‘incredible’, with Liverpool likely the only club at the top who couldn’t strengthen the position with Raya.

Rumours have linked Mendy in particular with an exit from Stamford Bridge, and a replacement may not be far behind his exit.
