Manchester City are now reportedly keen on trying to sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger.
With his contract expiring at Stamford Bridge at the end of this season, speculation about the German’s future is picking up.
According to Eurosport, Premier League champions Man City have “lodged their interest” in the 28-year-old.
It is understood Man City are not the only team lining up the centre-back. Tottenham, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich are also mentioned as a possible suitors, too.
Also, the report says it’s “most likely” that the Germany international will be leaving the Blues. This comes after The Athletic reported the defender is “resigned to leave next year” because talks over a new Chelsea contract continue to stall.
Rudiger would only be strengthening Chelsea rival
If Rudiger ends up at the Etihad Stadium, he would be improving a main Chelsea rival.
The centre-half would add even more quality to a Man City backline that already has the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte to call upon.
Chelsea beat Man City in last season’s Champions League final. However, trying to overcome them over the course of a long Premier League campaign is a totally different challenge.
Thomas Tuchel’s side need their best players moving forward to keep themselves in the mix against elite sides like Man City and Liverpool.
Huge character in dressing room
From the outside, it looks like Rudiger is at the very heartbeat of the Chelsea squad.
The defender sets the tone on the pitch with his aggression, enthusiasm and leadership.
He would be a mammoth loss to this Blues group.
