Report: Manchester City now make £67m bid for defender Chelsea also want to sign
Reports suggest Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol is also being targeted by Manchester City.
According to Bild, the Champions have seen a £67m bid rejected by RB Leipzig, with the Blues still considering making a bid.
The 20-year-old is reportedly seen as untouchable by the Bundesliga club, following his breakthrough season at the top of the game.
His impressive performances, particularly in the Europa League, let top European clubs know that he is ready for the big time now, despite his young age.
The Blues have been notably interested in a move for the Croatian, with them becoming desperate in their attempts to sign a centre-back before the season starts.
However, BILD suggests they are now facing direct competition for Gvardiol, with City making the first official bid for the young defender.
Chelsea face competition for Gvardiol
It is likely Chelsea are set to enter negotiations with Leipzig over a possible return to the Bundesliga for Timo Werner.
Todd Boehly is reportedly interested in putting together a swap deal for the 20-year-old, as the German looks to revitalise his career just a few months before this winter’s World Cup.
The deal would see the Blues finally add to the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly, after missing out on a number of targets already this summer.
Jules Kounde is the one the club are noticeably looking to get over, having been beaten to the deal at the final minutes by Barcelona.
The club may also prefer a move for Wesley Fofana, with Leicester City’s stance on his future similar to how Leipzig see Gvardiol.
With the Frenchman having experience playing in the Premier League despite being only 21 years of age, the Blues could see this as the safer investment, with both deals likely to be their second highest transfers of all time.
