Manchester United are set to launch a huge bid to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to reports.

Mason Mount, whose future is a hot topic for discussion in the transfer rumour mill, is now linked with a potential move to Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United will be making a £55million move for Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, who has just over a year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that United boss Erik ten Hag views the 24-year-old Blues ace as a ‘primary target’ this summer, which is why he wants a deal wrapped up quickly at the start of the summer transfer window.

The report adds that Chelsea currently value Mount at around £85million. Apparently, United are hoping to pay around £55million for his signature, but they could be prepared to increase that to get their target.

The Mail’s report this morning explains that United will face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for Mount’s signature.

They claim that incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino would prefer Mount to stay at Stamford Bridge and sign a new deal. However, there’s doubt over whether the Blues can revive contract discussions and get him to extend his stay.

If Chelsea’s hierarchy can’t come to an agreement over fresh terms with Mount, he’s likely to be sold this summer rather than risk letting him go on a free transfer a year later.

Journalist Simon Phillips shared on his Substack this week that Pochettino has a vision to use Mount at Chelsea in a similar way to how he deployed Christian Eriksen at Tottenham.

Fans are going to be nervous about Mount’s future after this morning’s breaking news about the Man United interest, though.

Described as “unbelievable” by Joe Cole, Mount is an extreme talent with his best years ahead of him.

The fact Ten Hag is desperate to bring him to Man United next season does say a lot about his quality.
