Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is reportedly “getting closer and closer” to re-joining AC Milan after a meeting between his representatives and the Italian club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
At this point, it is clear that the 27-year-old is not in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea plans this season.
Alongside two other midfielders; Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater, he was left out without squad numbers.
Having spent last season on loan at Napoli, Bakayoko is now reportedly on the verge of returning to Serie A.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Marco Busiello and Marco Brance of Firs1 Sports agency, who represent the Frenchman, had a “positive” conversation with AC Milan today (Thursday, 19 Aug).
Bakayoko already spent a season on loan with the Rossoneri in 2018/19 and has previously expressed his desire to return to the club.
While the type of the potential deal remains unclear at this point, Milan would reportedly prefer to bring him back on another loan deal with an option to buy.
A loan move is now a possiblity, since Chelsea have already triggered the one-year extension option in Bakayoko’s contract, the report added.
Based on the report, his contract now runs until 2023, and Chelsea are not at risk of losing the midfielder on a free transfer next summer.
