Arsenal have stepped up their interest in signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

That is according to The Athletic.

Kai Havertz is a Blues player linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in this summer transfer window, and there’s now some intriguing speculation emerging about him.

David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic on Wednesday that Arsenal have made an ‘opening proposal’ to sign Havertz.

It is understood that the Gunners are working on a deal for the Chelsea attacker after holding a strong interest in him.

The report claims that Mikel Arteta’s side have stepped up attempts to bring the 24-year-old to the Emirates Stadium after contact with both him and his club.

In addition, journalist Fabrizio Romano has said on Twitter that Chelsea will demand around £75million to sell Havertz. He adds that Arsenal don’t intend to meet that asking price, though.

90min claimed earlier this month that Havertz could still leave Chelsea in the summer window despite Real Madrid stepping back with their interest in him.

Now, it sounds like Premier League rivals Arsenal are hot in pursuit of the £150,000-a-week Blues forward.

Havertz has divided opinion within the Chelsea fanbase during his time at the club, largely because many feel he hasn’t lived up to his full potential yet.

Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez explained earlier in the season he was building a great connection with Havertz on the pitch and loved playing with him. Have we now seen that for the last time, though?

The German forward is forever in Chelsea history for scoring the winning goal in a Champions League final a couple of years ago, but there remains this constant mystery around him about his best position.

We would like to see the left-footed playmaker get a run of starts in a No 10 position under Mauricio Pochettino, but let’s wait and see if that’s possible.
