Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who’s been strongly linked with Chelsea this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Man United have made a fresh approach to sign the 33-year-old player from Barcelona.

It is understood they’re now ready to rival Chelsea for the attacker’s signature in the final week of the transfer window.

The report explains that the Blues are yet to actually reach an agreement for Aubameyang despite pushing hard to get him.

In addition, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is “determined” to sign Barcelona’s frontman and reunite with a player he previously coached at Borussia Dortmund several years ago.

Manchester United entered Aubameyang race

Every Chelsea fan knows how badly the club needs to sign a striker before next week’s transfer deadline, so it’s slightly unnerving to see a Premier League rival enter the race so late into proceedings.

For certain, Tuchel needs help from the club by recruiting a No.9.

Aubameyang may not have been the player on most people’s lips at the start of the window, but many have warmed to the idea of signing someone with goalscoring pedigree.

Described as “exceptional” by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, he’s a proven striker that has been a great finisher throughout his career.

Chelsea panic

As well as Man United’s interest, there may be more reason to panic on the Aubameyang transfer saga.

It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea are struggling to reach a contract agreement with the Barcelona star. The Blues want him to pen a one-year deal, while the player is hoping for a minimum of two years.
