Report: PL club plan late move for £15m Chelsea player that Tuchel doesn’t want
Chelsea player Ross Barkley may reportedly become a target late in this summer transfer window for Premier League rivals Burnley.
There are just hours remaining on Tuesday’s deadline day, but a possible suitor has arrived for the 27-year-old.
According to the Daily Express, Burnley are now showing interest in the Blues midfielder and are exploring the possibility of a swoop for him.
It is understood that the ex-England international isn’t a part of the plans under Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, so has been informed he can find a new home. He still has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
The report explains that Burnley are eyeing Barkley, albeit there may be a financial complication in their attempt to take him to Turf Moor. His £100,000-a-week contract is an issue and Chelsea would expect a fee in any kind of loan deal, although they would prefer to sell.
Ross Barkley needs Chelsea exit
It’s obvious Barkley isn’t forcing his way into Chelsea contention this year, so he needs to hope a last-ditch transfer can be arranged for him.
The fact he cost £15million from Everton back in January 2018 means he’s not been a complete blunder at that price. At the same time, he’s not developed into the kind of player many hoped.
He’s scored 11 goals and made 11 assists in 86 Chelsea appearances, but it would be a surprise to see him play a competitive game for the Blues again.
If Burnley can sort the financial side of things to sign him on loan or permanently, Barkley could give them something extra in terms of an attacking threat.
His loan at Aston Villa last year didn’t quite take off despite a promising start, so he’s in a tricky position right now.
