Report: Player stops negotiations with Chelsea after transfer approach from Barcelona

Barcelona have been in negotiations with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen over a potential free transfer move at the end of the season for months, according to Spanish publication Sport.

The report claims Barcelona have been keeping an eye on players in the final months of their contracts, including Christensen.

The 25-year-old defender had attracted interest from the La Liga giants even before this season, having been considered as an alternative to Eric Garcia in the last January transfer window.

Sport reported that Barcelona have reignited their interest and begun negotiations with the player’s representatives months ago.

The report also mentioned that Christensen is also attracted to the idea of a move to Camp Nou. This reportedly led to the defender’s stopping contract negotiations with Chelsea.

However, Christensen reportedly wants to make his decision in January on whether he will extend his contract with Chelsea or accept an offer from another club.

Sport further claims that Bayern Munich and Juventus are also monitoring Christensen’s contract situation at Chelsea.

Barcelona are reportedly interested in Christensen’s ball-playing ability as a defender, but they are also considering the possibility that Matthijs De Ligt could leave Juventus at the end of the season.

At Chelsea, Christensen has mostly played as a backup to Thiago Silva in the middle of the back three this season.

Trevoh Chalobah’s meteoric rise for the Blues means Tuchel has not had to rely as much on Christensen’s versatility. to play in the right centre-back spot.
