Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater could reportedly be targeted by Roma in the summer.
Italian giants Roma have recently appointed Claudio Ranieri as their manager, who won the title with Drinkwater during their time together at Leicester City.
According to Calciomercato, Ranieri has suggested the 29-year-old to Roma chiefs as a potential target for the summer as he plots a reunion with the Englishman.
The Blues splashed out £35million (BBC) to sign Drinkwater from Leicester back in 2017 and with hindsight it’s quite clear to see they overpaid.
He’s not made a first-team this season other than the Community Shield before the Premier League opener and is completely out of the plans of manager Maurizio Sarri.
Drinkwater is on a mammoth £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) wage at Stamford Bridge and for a player that has no chance of being reintroduced it makes sense to offload him at the end of the season.
The central midfielder is strong passer of the ball and has an immense work-rate, while the form he showed at the King Power with Leicester highlights his quality.
But unfortunately the step up and demands of moving to a club like Chelsea has proven too much with the wealth of competition.
Reuniting Ranieri would be a fascinating next move for him in his career and his style of play could be well suited to a slower tempo in Italy.
