Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu was reportedly a target during last month’s January transfer window for Serie A club Fiorentina.
According to Football London, the 21-year-old’s performances this season sparked the interest of Italian side Fiorentina.
However, ‘La Viola’ decided not to make an official approach during the window.
Ampadu, who joined Chelsea back in 2017, is currently enjoying a season-long loan in Italy.
The Wales international has been a regular for Venezia, who sit 18th in the Serie A table in a relegation fight. His performances have done enough to attract interest from eight-placed Fiorentina, though.
Football London’s report adds the versatile youngster will have two years left on his Chelsea deal when he returns from his loan in the summer. The Blues will need to then make a decision on where his future lies.
Ampadu’s an extremely versatile player who usually plays as a defensive midfield or centre-back. He’s shown this season he can slot in at right-back, too.

Forgotten Chelsea loanee
Naturally, a lot of the Chelsea fanbase have been closely watching how the likes of Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Armando Broja do this season during their respective loan spells at Premier League rivals.
Ampadu is someone that’s going slightly under the radar because he’s developing abroad.
He’s got an upper hand on plenty of the Blues loanees given he’s played 12 first-team games for the club already. Also, he’s remarkably already got 31 senior international caps for his country Wales.
The fact he’s still trying to nail down a best position is a slight concern, but he’s a very strong and athletic player.
It’ll be interesting to see if Chelsea’s current first-team boss Thomas Tuchel can picture him in his squad next season.
