Sevilla have reportedly held initial talks with the agent of Chelsea centre-forward Alvaro Morata about a possible loan deal.
According to Goal, the La Liga club are prepared to pay the whole of his £140,000-a-week wages to take him on loan for the rest of the season.
It is understood that the striker’s agent, Juanma Lopez, has met with Spanish club Sevilla to hold preliminary talks about a return to Spain.
The report further details that Chelsea will not be prepared to offload the Spain international unless they have a direct replacement lined up for January.
Morata may have scored nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions this season, but he’s not in the good books of supporters and not a regular in Maurizio Sarri’s team either.
The 26-year-old first teamer has struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge since joining in 2017 despite having a decent track record in front of goal.
He should have a far better goal return though but for his inconsistency in the penalty area, while it’s his overall game that lets him down and his frequent offsides has become a joke with Chelsea supporters.
It’s obvious that Sarri can’t afford to let him go for the rest of the season unless there is a replacement, as Olivier Giroud doesn’t score enough and Eden Hazard can’t be expected to delver a masterclass every game.
Morata’s exit may seem harsh from an outsiders view, but something just isn’t clicking for him with the Blues and a loan exit to Sevilla to help him get back to his best may suit both parties.
Chelsea need a powerful centre-forward with a presence if they are to win the top trophies and Morata doesn’t appear to be the right man for the job.
