Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly on the loan radar of Premier League rivals Southampton for next year.
Loftus-Cheek, 25, has spent this season out on loan with London neighbours Fulham. Unfortunately, the attacking midfielder has flopped during his loan spell, contributing one goal and zero assists in 30 appearances for a Fulham side that have been relegated from the Premier League.
According to the Express, Southampton have prepared to give him another shot though next campaign in the top flight.
It is explained that the Saints are planning a season-long loan bid this summer, with a view to making it permanent if it works out.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is an admirer of the Chelsea academy graduate, and previously tried to sign him.
The report adds Loftus-Cheek is valued around £20million, with three years still remaining on his £120,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge.
The Chronicle View
Loftus-Cheek remains a massive favourite with plenty of Chelsea fans.
The 10-time caped England international was an important figure in the Blues side back under ex-manager Maurizio Sarri, but a long-term injury derailed his progress.
It’s been extremely frustrating to see someone with his ability struggle to make a big difference with Fulham, but it would be foolish to completely write him off.
A loan with Southampton in the 2021/22 season makes sense for all parties, and Chelsea supporters would love nothing more than to see the talented playmaker back to his very best.
