Thiago Silva is reportedly set for a medical at Chelsea on Thursday despite Paris Saint-Germain’s last effort to extend their captain’s contract.
According to a report from Sky Sports, the Brazil international is due to undergo a Chelsea medical on Thursday, August 27, after “the finishing touch” to an offer have been agreed between the club and the player in the past 48 hours.
The report added that PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to keep his captain for a ninth season, but the club sporting director Leonardo does not share the same idea.
Sky Sports also mentioned that the deteriorated relationship between Silva and Leonardo prompted Silva to want a new challenge at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
The 35-year-old could be a short-term fix to Chelsea’s defensive woes after conceding 54 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any other side in the top half of the table.
Despite turning 36 next month, the Brazilian centre-back made 36 appearances in all competitions for PSG, including nine appearances in the Champions League where they came close to the European glory after a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the final.
Chelsea are also reportedly close to signing another defensive recruitment in Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, along with Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz.
