Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reportedly been discussing the idea of targeting Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi in this summer’s transfer window.
According to the Athletic, the Blues are contemplating a raid for the 22-year-old.
He’s been discussed “extensively” by the Chelsea hierarchy, scouting department and Tuchel.
The defender is a long-term target for Chelsea since his Real Madrid youth team days.
Aged 22, Hakimi already has so much experience at the top level.
The full-back is someone who’s renowned for his blistering pace, and that’s seen him play in the first team at Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and now Inter.
He’s a right wing-back that has been a massive goal threat this season.
Firstly, the rapid wide player ended up with seven goals in 45 games across all competitions this campaign. Additionally, he contributed 11 assists with his dangerous crossing.
Interestingly, Hakimi shared last month that he’s learned so much from Antonio Conte. The Italian manager recently left his post at Inter after working with Hakimi and he’s an ex-Chelsea boss.
“Conte’s greatest strength is that he brings everything out of his players. He taught me to focus not just about attacking, but also defending, and I learned an aspect of the game that I didn’t really know very well. I have improved a great deal over the last year,” Hakimi said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“He works on the details and that makes it easier for us once we are in a match situation, knowing there are no surprises, because we prepared for every situation we might face.”
Hakimi an amazing Chelsea target, but does Tuchel need him?
Hakimi is one of the world’s best young defenders. Of course, he would make a fine addition at Stamford Bridge.
An education as a defender under Conte is perfect, plus his wing-back role would make him an ideal fit under the system that Chelsea boss Tuchel has implemented since he joined.
Chelsea won the Champions League with Cesar Azpilicueta at right centre-back and Reece James at right wing-back. However, another option in that area of the pitch would be a big help.
A James-Hakimi combination in defence is a frightening prospect.
