Barcelona are reportedly eyeing up a triple raid on Chelsea this summer.

According to ESPN, the Camp Nou chain of command have added Marcos Alonso to their list of potential recruits in the next transfer window.

Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are already under heavy inspection by Barca, as they look to rebuild Xavi’s team with minimal cost.

Both Christensen and Azpilicueta will be free agents at the end of the season unless Chelsea renew their contracts.

Landing the two defenders for a relatively low fee would enable the La Liga club to go all out for Erling Haaland, claim ESPN.

Alonso on the way out?

Alonso is certainly a new addition to the catalogue, having previously been linked with fellow Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The £24m (£24m) full-back has just under 18 months left of his stay at Stamford Bridge and probably won’t be offered a significant extension – if one at all – when the sand timer runs out.

Chelsea do not tend to renew the contracts of players over 30.

This is probably why Azpilicueta’s situation hasn’t been resolved yet.

At 31, Alonso now belongs to the vulnerable age group.

Once Ben Chilwell returns from injury and Emerson Palmieri possibly regains his place in the squad, the Spain international might want to cut ties with the Champions League holders early.

Man from Madrid making the journey to Barca

Admittedly, his Chelsea career has dwindled in the past few months.

Moments of pure quality have been few and far between, with the exception of the odd game.

Like against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup where Karen Carney called him ‘aggressive’.

A move back to his homeland may appeal more than anywhere else on the continent.

However, having developed in Real Madrid’s academy, joining forces with Barca might be frowned upon by members of the family.

Although, his dad, also named Marcos, played for both Blaugranaand and Atletico across his career.

Like father like son, perhaps.
