Chelsea are reportedly prepared to fork out a club-record transfer fee for Benfica’s Enzo Fenandez.
The latest Blues transfer speculation suggests that Todd Boehly’s side are pushing hard to sign the 21-year-old star and want to bring him to Stamford Bridge next month during the January transfer window.
According to the Daily Record, Chelsea have now proposed a deal for Fernandez that eclipses Benfica’s €127million (£112million) record sale of Joao Felix from a few years ago. Incidentally, it’s a transfer that would also surpass Chelsea’s club-record spend of £97.5million to sign Romelu Lukaku last year.
It is understood that the Blues want to sign the central midfielder immediately after his recent stunning performances helped Argentina win the World Cup.
The report explains Portuguese side Benfica believe they can keep their rising star until the summer and cash in then for around €80million (£71million).

Club-record fee for Enzo Fernandez
Described as “spectacular” by Lionel Messi a few months ago, speaking via La Pagina Millonaria, Fernandez is a superstar in the making.
He already looks like one of the most complete midfielders in the game, something he proved on the World Cup stage in Qatar.
The Argentine ace has the quality going forward to score and create goals. Also, he’s tenacious and hard working in his defensive work.
If a January deal can be arranged, it would be a serious statement addition to Graham Potter’s squad.

Fernandez is the type of signing that could reenergise a Chelsea midfield that does need some lifting.
There’s so much to love about the South American’s game, which is why you can understand why Boehly’s men are ready to splash the cash.
However, every Blues fan will tread carefully nowadays given the amount of transfer blunders in recent years. This surely wouldn’t be one of them, though.
