Report: Tottenham now interested in signing £18m player, just a year after he left Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly interested in signing former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs have the Cobham scholar on their radar, less than a year after he swapped Stamford Bridge for Selhurst Park.

Top marks for Marc

Guehi was rather surprisingly sold to Palace by Thomas Tuchel for £18m (Guardian) last summer.

Many Chelsea supporters felt the centre-back had shown enough during his loan spells with Swansea City to at least fight for a chance in the senior side.

Tuchel clearly did not share this view and decided to hand over the academy graduate to a London rival.

The German coach might be regretting his decision, after seeing how well the 21-year-old has performed across the capital.

Out of the 38 Premier League games, Guehi only missed two.

On several occasions, he was named captain by Patrick Vieira, a sign of his maturity at such a young age.

Gareth Southgate also recognised the player’s potential by including him in the two latest England squads.

But it’s not only Guehi’s displays for Palace that will have hit Tuchel where it hurts.

He is about to potentially lose up to four key figures in his defence, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s departure all but confirmed.

Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta could be heading out of the exit door as well.

Tottenham interested in Guehi

Although it’s likely Todd Boehly will provide the Chelsea manager with fresh reinforcements, he could be saving his pennies had Guehi been given an opportunity.

Instead, Boehly might see a product of his new project move to a club preparing to battle the Blues on all fronts next season.

Spurs are on the up under Antonio Conte, following a fine end to the term.

They qualified for the Champions League and will now be focusing on expanding the team.

This means adding depth to an already decent camp, with the possible arrival of Guehi certainly a strong piece of business.
