Chelsea are reportedly are among the frontrunners to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud whom Thomas Tuchel knows quite well, according to Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Interestingly, according to Daily Mail, Dahoud had already been under Chelsea and Man City’s radars before his transfer to Dortmund in 2017.

The deal for his transfer from Borussia Moenchengladbach was also struck when Tuchel was at the helm at Dortmund, the report added.

According to another report from The Guardian, Chelsea even had already been in contact with Dahoud’s representatives at that point.

The Germany international initially struggled for game time under previous boss Lucien Favre, Dahoud has been a regular starter under interim boss Edin Terzic recently.

He started the last seven games, including the opening goal in Dortmund’s win over Sevilla in the Champions League last month.

So how would Dahoud fit in at Chelsea?

He is a box-to-box type of player who excels in transitions.

The Syria-born midfielder would also fit in nicely into Tuchel’s plan should he join, having often played in a two-man midfield in 3-4-3 structure at Dortmund.

At the moment, Tuchel has been using Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho as part of his midfield rotation, with Billy Gilmour being the fourth-choice.

If Gilmour decides to leave and pursue regular football at a loan club, Dahoud could slot in and even provide competition for midfield roles.
