Report: Tuchel has serious doubts about Chelsea signing 23-year-old, fears he's not right for the Premier League

Thomas Tuchel reportedly has serious doubts about Chelsea signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer.

Kounde, who’s been heavily linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window, appears to be at the centre of a tug-of-war between the Blues and Barcelona.

According to The Guardian, the 23-year-old’s potential switch to Chelsea is in danger of collapsing.

It is understood Barcelona have revived their interest in the Sevilla centre-back and could end up paying less than the £55million Chelsea are prepared to cough up.

The report explains there’s now an extra complication that Blues manager Tuchel isn’t convinced that 5ft 10in centre-half Kounde is tall enough to thrive in the Premier League. Apparently, the West London club are “close” to completely walking away from the deal.

Tuchel has doubts about Chelsea signing Kounde

It’s interesting to hear worries about Kounde’s height, which is something that does sound a little odd.

The France international has proven his quality in Sevilla colours as a top centre-back, with huge quality when it comes to pace, power and quality on the ball.

If there are genuine fears about his height, playing in a back three would help solve that obstacle somewhat.

Kounde has the potential to still be a top signing for Chelsea if this deal can be wrapped up, but supporters are now resigned to losing another transfer race this summer to Barcelona. Incidentally, Barca manager Xavi Hernandez was fairly vague when asked recently about Kounde.

Hurry up!

It’s pretty concerning that there’s less than two weeks until the Premier League season kickstarts.

Chelsea need to try get another defensive recruit in imminently to bolster the squad because they risk starting the new campaign light in that area.

Kalidou Koulibaly’s arrival this summer has given a big lift to the defence, but they’re still short of experience and quality in that position.
