Report: Tuchel has spoken to Chelsea squad about 22-year-old target, but he may become January option

Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde may end up being pushed back until January.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old during this transfer window, but the latest update is a blow.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are likely to walk away from their interest in the Frenchman this summer unless Sevilla drop their asking price.

It is understood that Chelsea have been pushing to secure his signature, with manager Thomas Tuchel even discussing the transfer target with some of the senior players in his squad.

However, La Liga club Sevilla have decided to increase their asking price by an extra £12.8million, despite the fact Chelsea thought a verbal agreement was already in place over a fee.

The report explains that Tuchel’s side may end up sticking with their current defensive options and looking back at Kounde’s situation in January.

Chelsea don’t want to miss out on Joules Kounde

For Chelsea fans, they should hope the club manage to sort out a deal for Kounde in the final two days of the window.

The ball-playing centre-half has everything needed to be a success in England, so it would be a massive shame to see him move elsewhere.

There is probably enough centre-back cover in the squad to cope until January. Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Trevor Chalobah are the main options in defence.

It would be great to see the club, though, invest in a young defensive talent, and Sevilla’s ace would be a brilliant long-term option.
