Report: Tuchel has told new Chelsea owners pursuit of 25-year-old has 'highest priority'

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has made it known to the club that he considers soon-to-be free agent Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele a priority target this summer, according to Sky Germany.

While it has been a surprisingly quiet summer transfer window for the Blues, who are under new ownership, Tuchel is expected to be given several new players ahead of the new season.

But not only in defence, in which they will have to replace both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Chelsea are reportedly also in the market for new attackers.

The west London club has been linked with a number of attacking players in recent weeks, including Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Leeds United’s Raphinha, but according to Sky Germany, Dembele is the first name on Tuchel’s attacker shortlist.

The 25-year-old, whose contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this month, has reportedly yet to agree a new deal with the Catalan club.

The report also mentioned that Barcelona are not going to improve the latest contract offer, and this could allow Chelsea to enter the frame.

Sky Germany claims that Tuchel “definitely” wants to sign Dembele, with whom he worked together at Borussia Dortmund, and has already told the new Chelsea ownership group that the pursuit of the winger has “the highest priority”.

Sky Germany transfer expert Marc Behrenbeck also predicted that “the next week will be decisive”.

The France international racked up one goal and 13 assists from 21 appearances (15 starts) in La Liga last season and played a crucial role in Barcelona’s finishing second in the league despite their poor start.
