Report: Two Tuchel signings at risk of being sold after just one season at Chelsea

Chelsea could offload at least two of their summer signings at the end of the season after disappointing starts to their Stamford Bride career, according to 90min.

It is safe to say that Chelsea’s last summer transfers have not lived up to expectations.

Unlike in January, in which the club mostly invested in developing, young talents, many of the summer signings were senior players who were expected to make an immediate impact on the team.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, and, to a certain extent, Marc Cucurella are all experienced players.

However, Sterling and Cucurella are the only ones to have played regularly, and in the latter’s case, Ben Chilwell’s injury absence clearly played a big part, too.

That said, it is also rather unfair to heavily criticise the club for these summer deals.

At the time, Chelsea had yet to have a sporting department and co-owner Todd Boehly had to play this role alongside former manager Thomas Tuchel.

After the January spending spree, Chelsea will inevitably have to trim their oversized squad this summer, and 90min claims Chelsea could be prepared to offload at least two of the summer transfers; Koulibaly and Cucurella.

Cashing in on Koulibaly while he still has a resale value would make sense, especially since Benoit Badiashile looks more than ready to be a regular starter as a left-sided centre-back.

On the other hand, the reported plan to sell Cucurella after just one season would raise plenty of eyebrows.

The Spain international is still 24, and despite his struggling form, his versatility has proved beneficial to the team.

He is also one of the only two left-back options in the team alongside Ben Chilwell.

If Chelsea planned to sign another left-back or promote on-loan Ian Maatsen to the first team, however, it would be a different story.
