Julen Lopetegui admitted that he fully trusts Sevilla sporting director Monchi to find a potential replacement for Jules Kounde who is reportedly close to joining Chelsea.

The transfer saga continues to drag on despite a reported five-year contract agreement in personal terms between the centre-back and Chelsea.

Chelsea are reportedly looking to offload Kurt Zouma first to make space for Kounde’s potential arrival.

Thomas Tuchel was surprisingly open about transfer negotiations between Chelsea and West Ham for Zouma during his press conference on Friday.

“I won’t lie to you, there have been some negotiations with West Ham,” the German told the media about Zouma’s potential summer departure (via Chelsea’s official website).

Asked about potential further signings, he added: “The transfer window is not over yet and we still have some ideas.

“We have discussions and we are trying, but not all decisions are taken in terms of our squad. There are situations that we are aware of.”

One of these “ideas” might be Kounde, as now even Sevilla head coach Lopetegui has had his say about the defender’s transfer situation.

“The Sevilla coach must be prepared for all issues,” the former Real Madrid boss said in his press conference on Friday (via Marca).

“These guys have their share of the market. What is going to happen I don’t know.

“If Jules leaves we are left with two centre-backs. If it happens, we have full confidence in Monchi.

“There is little time left, and nothing is simple. Our focus is 100% on the Elche game.”

Understandably, Lopetegui seems slightly worried about losing a key player very close to the transfer window deadline day.

However, Sevilla and Chelsea have reportedly been in talks over the transfer for quite some time, and at this point, they should be prepared for the potential transfer.
