Luka Jovic has not enjoyed the most successful of starts to his Real Madrid career, after making a £62 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. He is out of favour at the Bernebeu, so should Chelsea target the Real Madrid striker?
Calcio Mercato is reporting that Jovic may be available on loan, and it might be worth the Blues taking a look. The Serbian turned out against the Blues twice last season, scoring and impressing on both occasions.
Jovic has made just three starts for Madrid in the league this season and made six appearances from the bench. He has scored just one goal in that time and will no doubt be growing frustrated with his lack of opportunities since his move from Germany.
Pundit Paul Merson has claimed that Chelsea need to sign a striker, and Jovic could be that man. He was up there with the best strikers in Europe last season, scoring 35 goals in 45 starts across all competitions.
A physical striker who is deadly in the air and with his feet, Jovic is likely to be a good fit in the Premier League. His goalscoring exploits for Frankfurt last season were no coincidence, and the ability he possesses is clear to see.
Tammy Abraham has made the no.9 spot his own for the Blues this season, and it is difficult to see Jovic coming in and displacing him. However, goals have dried up for Chelsea in recent weeks and bringing in a quality hit-man up top would benefit Lampard’s side.
If he is available, Jovic is worth considering when the January window opens.
