Chelsea supporters demanded an immediate response after discovering that Eduardo Camavinga would not be signing a new contract at Rennes.
The Athletic claimed that the teenage sensation will refuse a fresh deal with the Ligue 1 side, meaning he can either leave this summer or next.
AS suggested that Chelsea have been keeping an eye on Camavinga for a while, so this latest update may have piqued their interest.
It certainly heightened Blues fans’ excitement, who believed it was now time to secure one of the game’s brightest talents.
Camavinga has been an ever present in Rennes midfield this season, missing just two league games through injury.
After making his first team debut in 2019, the 18-year-old is already closing in on 100 appearances for Les Rouges.
He is a senior French international, having earned a trio of caps last year.
There can be no surprise that Europe’s elite are watching Camavinga’s movements closely.
He is a very similar mould to N’Golo Kante, in terms of position and nationality, which will resonate with Chelsea.
Their own all-action midfield recently turned 30 and has been hit with numerous injuries this campaign.
Although no immediate replacement is required, a contingency plan might need to be put into place for life post-Kante.

For all the talk of a new striker, which we definitely need, and a new centre-back, which we don’t need as much, not enough has been spoken about signing a new defensive midfielder.
At the minute, we look great as a unit. But when teams do start to work out Thomas Tuchel’s tactics, they may find joy through Chelsea’s middle.
Kante can’t do it all on his own, especially next to Mateo Kovacic or Jorginho, who aren’t know for the defensive capabilities.
Bringing in another body to ease the pressure on Kante may be beneficial.
I’m not saying Camavinga is the answer. However, he could be a possible solution.
