‘Skilful’ England star would prefer Manchester United move over Chelsea

Manchester United look like they could have the advantage over Chelsea in any potential race for one midfielder.

Chelsea‘s midfield is in good shape right now, especially with the form that Moises Caicedo is in. The 23-year-old has been one of their best players this season.

Nevertheless, they are a club who always look to strengthen, so you would not rule out the arrival of another midfielder at Stamford Bridge.

As for United, following the appointment of Ruben Amorim, you would expect them to bring in reinforcements next summer and possibly in January.

Manchester United and Chelsea interested in Angel Gomes

One midfielder whom United and Chelsea could target in the new year is Lille’s Angel Gomes, who used to play for the former.

According to CaughtOffside, United and Chelsea are both interested in Gomes, with Amorim giving the Red Devils the green light to make a move for him.

The same outlet has also claimed that Gomes would favour a return to Old Trafford, which is good news for Amorim.

It has been claimed that Chelsea have turned down the chance to sign Gomes in the past, but he still appears to be on their radar.

Who else is interested in Angel Gomes?

United are not the only team Chelsea may have to go up against to sign Gomes.

CaughtOffside’s report states that the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United could also make a move for the 24-year-old.

Since leaving Old Trafford, Gomes has developed into a really talented midfielder, so it is not a surprise to see him being linked to more than one Premier League club.

As relayed by Sky Sports, Lee Carsley said when discussing Gomes: “He’s very skilful, the way he can receive balls, the way he can control games.”

From his perspective, though, it would probably make more sense for him to join United than Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca has already struggled to fit two £100m midfielders into the same team this season. Adding Gomes to the mix would only complicate things and he will not be able to guarantee the England international starts.
