Some Chelsea insiders are upset that Lewis Hall has left the club to join Newcastle United.

That is according to a report from The Athletic.

They claim that Chelsea talent Lewis Hall, 18, is joining Newcastle on loan with an obligation to buy for £28million plus £7million of add-ons.

It is explained that the Premier League clubs view the deal as a permanent transfer, but an initial loan has been sorted to help with financial sheets. The transfer was officially announced on Tuesday morning, with Chelsea confirming on their official website it’s a loan with a permanent option.

The report adds that some inside Chelsea are really disappointed about Hall’s exit from Stamford Bridge. In fact, there’s concerns the Blues may slip back into the old ways of losing their best academy graduates.

Hall made a remarkable impact in Chelsea’s first team when he broke into contention towards the back end of last season.

The Blues were all over the place in the final few months of the campaign, but the English teenager adapted superbly well when dropping into the left-back position. He’s a versatile youngster who usually plays as a central midfielder, too.

He’s decided to continue his development at St James’ Park with his boyhood club Newcastle.

Pat Nevin previously described Hall as a “special talent”, via Chelsea’s website. We totally agree the left-footed youngster looks brilliant for his age.

Our biggest problem this year may have been finding regular minutes for him in the first team, so we can understand why the player has moved on.

Hall’s path into the XI at left-back is blocked as long as Ben Chilwell is fit and available. Meanwhile, the Blues spent a fortune on bolstering the midfield positions.

Our guess is Hall is going to do very well under Eddie Howe’s guidance at Newcastle, so this is a deal that could really sting later down the line.
