Chelsea are reportedly close to signing young striker David Datro Fofana from Molde.

Fofana, who’s just 19, is an exciting youngster playing in the Norwegian league.

The centre-forward has 24 goals in 65 first-team appearances for Molde, with a few of them coming in European competitions.

He’s not had the experience yet at the highest level, but minutes in both the Europa League and Europa Conference League is impressive. Fofana has two senior international caps for the Ivory Coast, too.

Chelsea close to signing David Datro Fofana

According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea will “soon” wrap up a deal to sign Fofana.

It is understood that the Blues have agreed a deal worth more than €10million (£8.6million) for the teenage attacker.

Next, personal terms will be sorted before the transfer is officially finalised.

Romano wrote on Twitter on Thursday: “Exclusive: Chelsea are on the verge of signing David Datro Fofana, here we go soon! There’s full agreement in place with Molde to sign Ivorian striker born in 2002. Personal terms are still being discussed with player — then deal will be signed for more than €10m fee.

It looks like Chelsea are about to nudge Premier League rivals Brighton aside to sign Fofana.

Romano claimed last month that Brighton had commenced conversations to sign Molde’s 19-year-old talent, but he now looks destined for West London.

Romano said on Twitter in November: “Brighton have opened talks with Molde to sign Ivorian talented striker David Datro Fofana.”

Of course, Blues fans won’t be able to help themselves compare Fofana to Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba.

There will be enough pressure on Fofana already as a new No.9 arriving in a new country. That’s why it’s important for the youngster to write his own story.
