‘Sorry’: Fabrizio Romano now shares what he knows about Chelsea and Gavi

There is not much to the speculation surrounding Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

Gavi is being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but Romano has stated in his Substack column that Barcelona are not making any decisions on their summer plans right now and that there is not much to this Gavi and Chelsea story. “Sorry to disappoint you Chelsea fans, but I don’t think there’s much to this story,” the Italian journalist said.

Sport recently claimed that the Blues are one club who are interested in Gavi and that he could cost more than €100m (£87m).

He has been a key player for Barcelona this season, playing in all 10 of their La Liga games so far.

Gavi unlikely to move to Chelsea

Barcelona may have financial problems, but the club will not want to sell Gavi to Chelsea or any other side.

Again, the Spain international is such an important player for Xavi’s team despite still being just 19 years of age.

If Barcelona do have to sacrifice members of their squad next summer, you suspect others will be on the chopping block first.

While Gavi is obviously a player with a lot of talent, it is not the end of the world if Chelsea cannot land him, as midfield is one of the stronger areas of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

The Argentine watched Moises Caicedo arrive during the summer and already had World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez in his ranks.

Where Chelsea’s focus is likely to be, then, is up front, though AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham no longer looks to be an option for them.

The Blues do have Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, but the two young footballers are yet to prove that they are prolific No.9s.

With that being the case, we fully expect Chelsea to prioritise signing a new striker over everything else.
