Tudor Mendel-Idowu has now rejected a move to Barcelona in favour of joining Anderlecht after his contract at Chelsea expired.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, what is the latest on Tudor Mendel-Idowu after he left Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Blues appear to have let a top prospect slip away from Stamford Bridge – based on the offers he has received since leaving Chelsea when his terms ended on June 30th.
Anderlecht – famed for producing the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans – boast a fantastic academy, whereas Barcelona are also famous for the talent they churn out of La Masia, such as Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
However, the Belgian giants appear to be a more attractive destination for Mendel-Idowu, as the 18-year-old has now surprisingly rejected Barcelona to join the Jupiler Pro League side.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Anderlecht, on the verge of completing hijack to sign former Chelsea gem Tudor Mendel as free agent. Barcelona had verbal agreement done to sign Tudor and send him to Barça Atletic but Anderlecht are now ahead confident to get it signed. Deal at final stages.”

The teenager – who feels he has a “special talent” – joined Chelsea’s academy back in 2012, and was offered a new contract by the Blues this summer.
However, Mendel-Idowu decided to reject the deal in search of a new experience, which he now seems to have found in Anderlecht.
Chelsea could regret losing Tudor Mendel-Idowu
In our view, this one could come back to bite Chelsea.
The Berkshire-born forward looks to be a phenomenal prospect, scoring three goals in his four appearances for the England Under-17 side, while also making opponents look foolish in Chelsea youth games.
Just take a look at the footage below.
There is no denying that Mendel-Idowu is a fine footballer, and hopefully, he can fulfil his incredible potential over in Belgium with Anderlecht.
