Chelsea are reportedly planning to hold talks with Mason Mount over a new contract – and some Blues fans on Twitter are delighted with the speculation.

According to Goal, Chelsea are set to have discussions with the 22-year-old about extending his deal at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that the England international’s wages could be at least doubled, meaning he could move from £75,000-a-week to a minimum of £150,000-a-week. He would want to be valued alongside the other top earners at the Bridge.

The report explains that there has been no official new contract offer yet for the Chelsea academy graduate, as the club are currently working on the futures of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah.

Mount still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his existing deal, though, so plans over an extension highlight how highly rated he is.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe a new deal for their star player Mount is justified.

The attacking midfielder is yet to hit anywhere near top gear this season, with manager Thomas Tuchel suggesting this week he’s one of three Blues players at risk of being overused by their countries.

If you look back at the previous two seasons, Mount has been a real talisman for the Chelsea squad.

He already puts so much responsibility on his young shoulders and looks a captain in the making. His impact both on and off the ball is crucial, too.

Here are some Blues fans reacting to the reported update on Mount’s contract situation:

A lot of the unselfish work Mount does for his team can’t be quantified by statistics, but it’s reaching a stage where he needs to start posting bigger numbers for goals and assists to reach the elite bracket.

He scored eight goals in his first season as a senior Chelsea player. He followed that up during the last campaign with nine goals.

Tuchel has to be demanding more from him in now in front of goal because he’s got the talent.
