Plenty of Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters on social media were delighted with the update concerning Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour.

According to The Athletic, Gilmour caught the eye of Wolves following his impressive European Championship performance for Scotland against England last Friday.

Chelsea’s midfielder was excellent all evening but was cruelly ruled out of his nation’s next game after testing positive for covid.

However, this hasn’t halted the interest of several Premier League suitors.

Wolves could face competition from Norwich City, who want to enhance their squad to avoid instant relegation back to the Championship.

Members of the Molineux faithful jumped at the chance of potentially signing Gilmour, as they too would like some extra quality in their team.

Here is how they reacted on Twitter:

Tough decisions for Gilmour

It could be a huge summer for Gilmour, in terms of how he wants his career to be shaped.

Staying at Chelsea would mean fighting hard for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s group; a struggle he is yet to fully win.

But he could emulate Phil Foden’s reluctance to leave Manchester City and the position he has now got himself into.

Or, there’s the route so many from the Blues system have trod before him: going out on loan.

Some return to Stamford Bridge a better player- Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham- whereas many depart and never return.

What can Wolves offer?

A move to a decent club like Wolves would provide Gilmour with regular top division action, something he has craved for so long.

Especially with Ruben Neves’ likely exit, there will be a big hole to fill in their centre.

Despite his size, its certainly a cap the Scotsman could plug.
