The latest Chelsea transfer news today is that Romelu Lukaku has left the club.
Chelsea confirmed via their official website this morning that Romelu Lukaku, 30, has joined Roma on a season-long loan.
The Belgian striker is still on the club’s books with a contract that doesn’t expire until 2026, but he’ll now spend this season in Italy with Roma.
It’s a return to the Serie A division for the centre-forward after spending last year with Inter Milan.
In fairness, his return of 57 goals in 97 Serie A games proves how effective he can in Italy.
Lukaku has followed the confirmation of his move with a post on Instagram.
Roma striker Tammy Abraham, 25, has similarly made the move in the past from Chelsea to Rome.
The former Blues frontman has posted a wordles reaction in the comment section of Lukaku’s post.
Roma could soon be lining up with Lukaku and Paulo Dybala as a two-man attack, which has the potential to be lethal if the pair play to their capable level.
However, there’s no tears shed from a Chelsea perspective that the Belgium international is spending another year away from the club.
It’ll be interesting to see how the attackers in Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues squad compare this season to the on-loan Roma forward.
