Chelsea are closing in on yet another signing this summer.
The Blues have already brought in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Tosin Adarabioyo.
And it is now being reported that Chelsea are close to signing Basel’s Renato Veiga.
However, it does not look like the club got a free run at the 20-year-old.
Veiga will bring versatility to Enzo Maresca‘s squad, with the Portuguese youngster able to play at centre-back, left-back and in midfield.

Renato Veiga expected to be Chelsea’s next signing
While Chelsea have brought in Adarabioyo, they look keen on adding another defender to their squad.
The Blues have been heavily linked with Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, but Veiga is the man who appears to be set for a move to Stamford Bridge.
According to AS, Chelsea have won the race for Veiga.
The outlet claims that AC Milan were also interested in the Basel star, but west London is where he will be playing his football this upcoming season.
Given his versatility, it certainly will be interesting to see how Maresca uses him.

Where is Renato Veiga most likely to start for Chelsea?
While Veiga can play at left-back, he actually does not have too much experience there.
According to Transfermarkt, Veiga has only made a few appearances at left-back, with most of his minutes coming in the middle of the pitch.
Yet that is where you can envision him a lot of the time at Chelsea. Ben Chilwell’s injury record is obviously not great, so Veiga could easily find himself in a position where it is him and Marc Cucurella duking it out for the left-back spot.
The good thing is, though, at 20, he has plenty of time to develop and grow into the role.
Overall, Veiga could end up being a smart piece of business done by Chelsea. This could prove to be one that got away for Milan — time will tell.
