'There is no space': Fabrizio Romano claims 23-year-old could leave Chelsea in January

Versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah could leave Chelsea in January due to not a lack of space for him in the team, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old has made just one appearance for the Blues so far this term despite the club’s lack of defensive options earlier in the season.

It is also safe to say that Kalidou Koulibaly’s suspension played a big part in Chalobah‘s making the starting line-up in the 2-1 win against Leicester last month in the first place.

Unsurprisingly, the Chelsea academy graduate is reportedly not happy with his current situation at the club.

Romano claimed that Chalobah himself wanted a move in the summer in order to play regular football.

Chelsea had reportedly even entered negotiations with three clubs; Inter Milan, AC Milan, and RB Leipzig, for the defender before deciding to keep him.

Chalobah could leave Chelsea in January says Romano

“At the moment, he’s not finding any space at Chelsea,” the Italian transfer expert explained on his YouTube channel.

“He wants to be not just a starter but an important player at Chelsea.

“At the moment, there is no space. From what I’m told, there are already conversations with the clubs still interested in Chalobah, so there is a chance for him to leave the club in January, either on loan or permanently.”

Chalobah will have plenty of chances to impress new manager Graham Potter before the January transfer window, but Wesley Fofana is likely going to be the first-choice option for the right centre-back role.

He has also already spent three years on loan at three different clubs, so it remains unclear whether he will be happy to go on another spell.
